A [Crazy] New World

So we had to go back to the pediatrician on Thursday for what was either a reaction to one of the vaccines, a side effect of congestion, or a symptom of some unknown GI issue. Since Finn was obviously congested, the doctor thought it was most probably related to the stuffiness, and since the issue hasn’t reoccurred since we’ve been combating the congestion, we tend to agree.  While Dr. G was inspecting Finn and listening to our recitation of observations, he suggested that the congestion could be coming from his spitting up, which could in turn be caused by the congestion–one great big vicious cycle of post-nasal drip discomfort.  Since I frequently experience the same thing, I felt immediate sympathy for my poor baby.  To help break the cycle, he suggested starting Finn on rice cereal sooner rather than later to see if we could prevent spit ups by thickening up stuff in his belly.  So this weekend we broke out the bowl and spoon.

"What is going on here?"

He wasn’t too excited at first.

"What IS this?"

He wasn’t too excited after the first bite either.

"What kind of crazy new world is this?"

He did not eat much that first day.

Yesterday, the second attempt went a little better.  He still seems to prefer nursing, understandably.  Last week he was nursing so much that my supply could barely keep up (and one sad day it couldn’t, so we had to break out the frozen stuff), so I think it was definitely time to start the cereal.  It seems to be helping, too, even though he really isn’t eating that much of it.

I’ve been walking around the apartment whimpering “Sunrise, Sunset” to myself.

Picture distractions from the whimpering:
